Machine Tool Guards and Shields
Tool Grinder & Sharpener Guarding
Barrier guarding for tool grinders and sharpeners
Tool grinders and sharpeners expose operators to a continuous stream of hot sparks, abrasive grit, and broken wheel fragments, along with an unguarded rotating spindle and open nip points at the work rest. PowerSafe uses polycarbonate barrier guarding that encloses the work area without blocking the operator’s line of sight to the cutting edge. Guards are available as fixed, hinged, or hinged-and-sliding assemblies, with optional interlocking to stop spindle rotation whenever the guard is opened.
Key Features
- Encloses the abrasive wheel and work zone to contain sparks, grit, coolant mist, and wheel fragments during normal operation and wheel burst
- 1/4" polycarbonate (Lexan) viewing panels - impact-resistant, optically clear, and field-replaceable without removing the frame
- Fixed, hinge-up, or hinge-and-slide configurations to suit wheel access, dressing frequency, and workpiece loading
- Gas strut assist on hinged models holds the guard open for wheel changes, dressing, and setup
- Industrial aluminum extrusion frame with slotted mounting brackets for front-to-rear and height adjustment
- Powder-coated OSHA safety orange frame for high visibility on the shop floor
- Retrofittable to existing machines - interlock kits can be added to a non-interlocked guard later
- Optional under-guard LED light bar improves visibility of the wheel-to-workpiece contact point
- Custom sizing available for non-standard machine footprints and wheel diameters

Assembly / What’s Included
- 1/4" polycarbonate panel(s)
- Mounting brackets and hardware
- Gas strut assembly on hinged models
Configurations
- Fixed - bolted barrier for machines where the wheel is dressed infrequently and loading happens from the front
- Hinge-up - gas strut assisted, swings clear for wheel changes and dressing
- Hinge-and-slide - linear rail carriage with hinge-up panel, for machines needing full lateral clearance of the work zone
