Horizontal Bandsaw Guarding System

Safeguarded cutting cells for horizontal bandsaws, engineered to your required performance level

PowerSafe can build a safeguarded cell around a vertical bandsaw machine so operators stay clear of hazardous motion operation , while material loading, cutoff removal, and chip handling continue at production pace . Because the safeguarding method is selected from the machine's risk assessment and how it is actually operated, guarding configurations will differ.

Key Features

  • Safeguards blade contact, clamping and vise pinch points, wheel housing entanglement, and loose-clothing entanglement cross the cut zone, infeed, and discharge
  • Safeguarding method selected from the machine's risk assessment and operating mode
  • Material loading, bundle clamping, and cutoff removal maintained at production throughput
  • Hydraulic energy retained for blade changes, blade brush service, and guide arm adjustment, no loss of machine function to achieve the safeguard
  • Chip tray or chip conveyor servicing and coolant maintenance performed without defeating the safeguard
  • Protective bollards at the operator face to shield the cell from forklift and material-handling impact
  • Engineered to the existing machine and its material handling, with no modification to cutting capacity

Safeguarding Approach

Safeguarding is specified from the machine's risk assessment, the operating mode, the frequency of operator approach, and the required stopping distance. PowerSafe applies one or more of the following:

  • Floor-level presence sensing using pressure-sensitive safety mats laser area scanners, to detect approach into the hazard zone and stop hazardous motion before the operator can reach the blade or clamping area
  • Fixed barrier guarding at the rear and non-operator sides where access is not required during production
  • Interlocked access points where routine entry is required, with guard locking applied where stopping time or stored hydraulic energy demands it
  • Complementary control measures where a physical barrier alone cannot address the hazard
