Sound Enclosure: Customer was looking to lower a db level around their equipment. We designed a sound enclosure using T-Slotted Extrusion, ABS panels along with sound absorbing foam and seals. Due to the operating temperature of the equipment, we included a ventilation system with a thermostat. We removed their old sound blankets & framing and installed the new sound enclosure.

Steel Guarding: Customer needed to keep employees away from the machine during operation. They sent a sketch of their needs and a perimeter guard was designed using a heavy duty steel guarding system in strategic locations. We installed the guarding around the machine, which provided the proper protection for their team.

Machine Shields: A potential customer contacted us with a need to improve their safety on their standard machine tools. PowerSafe Automation has partnered with ATS Safety for standard mill, lathe, saw, and drill press guards. In doing this, we were able to provide a quick turnaround from quote to install of the required machine shield including the integration of the safety switch into their machine.

Machine Enclosure: With an open hazard to a slitter machine, the customer needed a quick solution. We designed a machine enclosure to fit the width of the slitter, then added a door that latched up at 180 degrees.  When in the down position it made contact with an RFID safety switch.

Machine Guarding: We returned to a facility for the fourth time for continual improvements of machine enclosures and perimeter guards. During each visit of barrier guarding installations, the customer requested designs for the next group of machines to be guarded. Designs were provided quickly and the customer returned an order to keep improving plant safety in a timely manner.

Automated Machine Safety System: The customer was challenged with a long ramp down time, but no room for mechanical guarding or the distance for light curtains. We designed a system upgrading their motor controls by adding a dynamic brake to their machine. From there we design a combination of mechanical guarding and technology safety devices to work in conjunction with the new braking system when the system was tripped. The customer is now happy with the new level of safety on the 2 machines we upgraded.

May 2018 in Portage, Michigan

CNC Router Enclosure:  Expanding their capabilities, our customer was adding a CNC router. They currently had curtains around their other CNCs, but were unhappy with them. We worked together to create a design using T-Slotted Extrusion. The design was a split design allowing the 2 sections to come apart when they needed full access. It also had vinyl strips vertically and brushes horizontally to keep the chip inside the guard. We added access doors to make it more user friendly for the operator as well. They are now considering changing all the curtains to this type of enclosure.

CNC Router Table: Expanding their capabilities, our customer was adding a CNC router. They needed to replicate their outfeed table which was built out of T-Slotted Extrusion. We modeled that design with our material and built a new outfeed table for them.

Safety Light Curtains: A customer purchased a plasma table and the previous customer had removed the safety light beams. The cables and relay was still in tact, but weren't sure which light beam were the matching system. With some research, we were able to supply them with the same Safety Light Beams the machine originally had on it.

Perimeter Guarding & Enclosures: With fighting a challenge of production while staying safe, the customer needed help designing the proper guarding. This project required a joint effort of the customer modifying their machine and us designing the guarding around those changes. We designed and built perimeter guarding for the sides of their printers, then metal fabricated hoods to cover over their ink rollers due to the amount of moving parts. All access was interlocked to prevent access when running.

Machine Shields: sometimes forgotten machines, this customer wanted to take the extra step in machine safety. They started with basic drill presses where we added standard machine shields to protect from flying debris as well as rotating spindles. These shields are interlocked to prevent running without them in place.

Perimeter Guarding: A potential customer was looking for a guarding company to provide a solution of closing off a hazard yet leaving access in areas for material handling.  One area required 15' and the other required 30', which we were able to successfully create. We designed collapsing sliding doors to achieve this.

Perimeter Guarding: Customer had a huge challenge needing to guard their press, but keep the area wide open when die changeovers occurred. We designed an overhead mounting structure to be bolted to the press columns. Then designed a truss system to fasten between that structure and perimeter guarding. We then designed perimeter guarding for around the press. We added 3 cylinders to the truss system to actuate the perimeter guard up & down during die changeovers controled by a valve and RFID safety switch.

Machine Enclosure: With an entire line of "oddly-shaped" production machines, the customer wasn't sure where to begin. We started with one machine, designed and built a prototype machine enclosure, then installed it. We performed "field-fit" modifications the kept the environment safe, but also worked for their production needs.

Automated Press Guarding: customer was looking for a solution to a cumbersome press access for operator production. Due to the fixed controls on the press and the limited space, we designed a vertically sliding door actuating with a cylinder. This door system opens half way where the operator needs to change parts, then has an option to open all the way for change over saving time during part runs.

Hazardous Containment Enclosure: Customer needed a chemical containment enclosure designed and built to meet EPA testing. The enclosure needed to keep the air volume at a minimum where possible and sealed as tight as possible. It also had to have access areas for production and changeovers, as well as a self-supporting roof in a number of areas. We designed this enclosure w/ T-Slotted Extrusion, a combo of lexan and ABS panels, built sub-sections at our facility to save customer down-time, transported them to the customer site and installed the enclosure. This included "field-fit" modifications around their conveyors and furnace.

Machine Safety System: Customer had an inherent hazard, but was unsure how to guard their equipment. They need open access for set up and material delivery. We designed a 3-part system that we tied together...hard-guarding over the pinch points, light curtains across the back, and a laser scanner across the front. We installed the components, programmed the scanner, and integrated all the e-safety devices.

Perimeter Press Guarding: Customer had a fully exposed uncoiler they needed to guard. We designed a perimeter guard to surround the entire process which included interlocked doors. Still concerned someone could be trapped inside, we designed in 2 laser scanners to scan the area for "obstructions". We built and installed the guarding, programmed the scanners, and integrated all the e-safety into their equipment.

PowerSafe Automation designed a system using T-Slotted Extrusion posts with a set of automatic restart relayed safety light curtains. PowerSafe Automation mounted the posts in multiple locations to provide stability for the light curtains.

In addition they needed all access doors set up with safety switches tied to an intrinsic safety system. This consists of specific low voltage switches, voltage lowering safety barrier, and a control panel purge system. PowerSafe Automation designed and installed this project from start to finish.

Robotic Cell Guarding: Part 2 of the last project...customer now wanted to split the cells to allow personnel to be working on a robot in down-time while the other robot was in production. We designed a cell dividing wall and new access doors for each side of the perimeter guard. We installed the guarding and integrated the switches into the system.

Perimeter Cell Guarding: Expanding their capabilities, a customer added a large extrusion press. This macnine did not come with perimeter guarding, so a large guarding package was designed to surround the press. We went in and took pre-fabricated panel sections, connected them together one by one around the press, and anchored them to the floor.

Machine Access Guarding: A plastic film manufacturing facility had to enclosure one of the machines with safety guarding, but were challenged with operator access during operation. These machines need constant adjustments. We designed guarding on one machine which included trapped-key interlocks. The guard was successfully installed and the customer made a few adjustments to their process. Once this guard is proven to be safe while not hindering production, they will move through and add guards to additional machines.

With over 28 unique machine guards ranging from door modifications, tunnels, and full guards the customer contracted us to design-build-install on the fly fabricating material from raw stock.

Drip Pan: A customer needed a solution to an ongoing slip hazard problem. After bottles are filled with oil, they are subject to drips and spills which can reach the shop floor. PowerSafe Automation designed custom stainless steel drip pans with drains to be placed under strategic areas of their machines. This eliminated oil on the floor eliminating the slip hazard.

Mill Conveyor Guarding: After an install of a new machine in October, there were obvious hazards that need to be covered. PowerSafe Automation designed a Perimeter Guard section and a chain guard to protect workers from injury. PowerSafe Automation also installed the guarding and wired the interlocks to shutdown the machine when access is being made.

Perimeter Safety Guarding: Customer knew they needed perimeter guarding around their equipment, but wasn’t sure exactly how to accomplish that. PowerSafe Automation reviewed the machine and provided 2 options. One option was a perimeter hard guard with a switch on the operator door and the second option was a set of light curtains with mirrors. Due to the environment potentially tripping the light curtains unexpectedly, so they chose to go with the perimeter guarding option.  

Oct 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio

Perimeter Press Guarding: A machine resale company contracted us to assist with a machine upgrade for their customer. Once they finished updating the machine, PowerSafe Automation was asked to come in and design safety guarding for this mechanical press. Guarding on this type of machine can be challenging, because once the press is in cycle it won’t stop until it finishes its revolution even when an electronic signal is applied. We were able to design a perimeter guard with door locks that won’t release until a sensor validates the cycle has been completed. After a successful installation, the reseller was able to release the machine back to the customer.

Containment Enclosures: With a series of existing enclosures, their operation required larger access for tooling changeover. We measured the production doors on their enclosures, designed a solution to make the set up doors larger, but add production doors within those doors so the operator didn't have to open such a large door each time. We installed all the doors and has since improved efficiency.

Machine Safety Guarding: After a number of conversations including safety, operations, and maintenance we were able to come up with a good plan for machine guarding. We added guarding to the sides with small doghouses and some fixed panels preventing access under the machine. We then tied the doors into the control panel to their start/stop circuit.

Mezzanine Gate: Customer had a number of mezzanine and stair case openings. While this didn't have any machine safety issues, it opened up opportunity for trips, falls, or access to these production machines. We went through and measured all openings. With a combination of steel mezzanine gates and T-Slotted Extrusion gates, we closed access to these areas to prevent injury.

Perimeter Safety Guarding: PowerSafe Automation designed an upgrade to a set of already installed perimeter guards. The customer needed additional operator and maintenance access. PowerSafe Automation provided an installation that included a combination of time and material field work, along with pre-designed bi-fold doors. This allows the operator to improve production rates as well as maintenance access without sacrificing safety.

Containment Enclosure: PowerSafe Automation designed an upgrade to an already installed custom machine enclosure. The customer needed additional access when changing over tooling for the next product run. PowerSafe Automation designed an operator bi-fold door inside a full size access door. This allows the operator to only have to open a small door during machine cycles, but improved the changeover time and ergonomics.

Mezzanine Hand Railing: PowerSafe Automation installed industrial hand railing made from T-Slotted Extrusions around the top of 2 washers and an over to ensure the safety of the maintenance team. 2 platforms spanning across these machines were also installed. Although the customer was satisfied with by the initial design & install, they decided they wanted to take safety to the next level. They requested another platform and add additional support to the hand railing. To save time for the customer, PowerSafe Automation designed the additions while still on-site and will return to install the additions.
